Bach performed this chorale cantata for the first time on 19th of November 1724. It is based on the chorale “Ach wie flüchtig, ach wie nichtig” from Michael Franck. The score contains the 4th movement, a very energetic aria for bass, three oboes and basso continuo. The arias text is based on the 10th verse of the chorale:

Ach wie nichtig,
ach wie flüchtig
sind der Menschen Schätze!
Es kann Glut und Flut entstehen,
dadurch, eh wir es versehen,
alles muß zu Trümmern gehen.
