Cantata for the 9th sunday after trinity
Complete score
Oboe 1
Violin 1
Violin 2
Viola
The score contains one of the most beautiful arias Bach has ever written. Its the 3rd aria “Wie zittern und wanken, der Sünder Gedanken”. The strings are wavering, there is no continuo - Bach uses it to underscore the text: there is no stable ground for the awed sinners conscience. Another detail emphasizes this: the oboe starts every single phrase from an off-beat.
Epistle: 1 Corinthians 10, 6-13
Gospel: Luke 16, 1-9
